Spring Break Trip to Hawaii

Well we didn't plan on going anywhere for spring break this year but my Grandpa's condo timeshare was open for a week in Hawaii and my aunt was calling around to see if any family members wanted to go. My mom also said they had skymiles that she wanted us to use so it wasn't too hard not to pass up. We found all of this out a month before we were to be heading on this trip so it was great that we were able to still get a pretty good deal on flights. Thanks to Grandpa for everything and my parents- this trip would not have been possible without them. We are pretty lucky. We love you guys!

We were so glad that we rented a car because we probably went around the island about 5 times (which only takes 2 1/2 hours.) We got a really good deal on it for the week and I think it actually saved us money renting rather than paying to go on a bus or taxi everyday. There was also a Costco near our condo that we would get our gas from.

We loved the condo! It was located just a few blocks from Waikiki beach. It had a cute little kitchen so we always had breakfast every morning.

Logan had been to Hawaii before with the basketball team but didn't really get to experience it in full. He couldn't get over how beautiful the drive was when we would get out of the city.

On Sunday they had a Honolulu parade on the Waikiki strip

A picture I took of the view from outside our condo

We went grocery shopping at Wal-mart and of course parking anywhere in Waikiki was usually in a parking garage so they had a seperate escalator that took the shopping cart right up to where your parked

This was a picture I took of the view at the top of a hotel where we met up with Logan's good friend Jess and his wife Sheena (: It was so fun that they were over in Hawaii. They flew in a few days after we were there and they left a few days before we went home so we got a good five days to hang out with them.

Duke Kahanamoku Statue
He was known as the Father of International Surfing because he introduced the sport to the eastcoast and he was also an Olympic champion

Waikiki beach

We went snorkeling at the famous Hanauma Bay

We stopped to see Chinaman's Hat also known as Mokolii island. You can actually walk across the reef all the way out through the ocean to get over to the island when there is a low tide. We only stopped to get a picture because it was too late to go cross over there.

We definitely had to stop at the Dole Plantation to get some pineapple ice cream (:

We didn't have time to go through the maze, but I wanted to show a picture of how huge it was

I loved this picture I took of this cute little pineapple. It was neat to see how they grow.

We went inside the Dole Plantation shop and I picked a clam not knowing I would even be lucky to get a pearl but the clam actually ended up having 2 inside. The lady made a hole in each pearl so I could make them into earrings.

Probably one of our favorite little places we found to eat at was called Papa Ole's. It had amazing shrimp, rice and chicken.

We went to the temple and it was being remodeled. I couldn't believe that it was going to be closed for a year and a half.

This was one of our favorite beaches called Kailua beach. It had such a beautiful color to the ocean and the most amazing white sandy beach.

My cousin Brianna had a mission companion that worked at the Polynesian Cultural Center and she was able to get us in for half price that included a tour guide to all the villages, dinner and the night show. The dinner was amazing- we had all you can eat crab, shrimp, fruit and pretty much anything you could think of.

At the Polynesian Cultural Center they had a canoe parade that was pretty fun to watch.

Going around to some of the villages at the PCC

The night show was so fun to go to. We had great seats with the package we had gotten and I loved the pineapple ice cream that you could get at intermission

Pali Lookout

The Nu‘uanu Pali was the site of one of the bloodiest battles in Hawaiian history where Kamehameha I conquered the island of the O‘ahu, bringing it under his rule. The battle for the island was in Nu‘uanu Valley, where the defenders of O‘ahu, led by Kalanikupule, were taken back up into the valley where they were trapped above the cliff. Thousands of Kalanikupule's soldiers were driven off the edge of the cliff to their deaths(you can kind of see in the picture above.) They found over 800 skulls at the base of the cliff years later.

We went to see the USS Arizona Memorial

A picture of the USS Missouri

We went shopping at the Swap meet before heading to the beach and it was so hot we couldn't resist buying an ice cold coconut

Waimea Falls

Logan's muscle man body at Waimea Bay

It was crazy when Logan's good friend and old mission companion called and told us that his family was over in Hawaii at the same time as we were. When we called the Clingers they were only a mile away from Waimea Bay and they were also staying in a condo a block away from our condo. So it was fun to meet up with them and hang out for the last few days of our trip.

The guys heading up the cliff to jump

It was neat seeing the turtles come right up onto the beach

We couldn't get too close to them-it was roped off all around each turtle. They actually had volunteers at this beach that would come every single day to watch over them.

I had forgotten to switch my camera to take a night shot but this was one of the shrimp shacks we ate at over on northshore and it was so yummy

We went to the mall and Logan HATES to shop so he usually tries to find the nearest place to sit down (:

Hanging out with our good friends the Clingers

The Clingers have been to Hawaii about 12 times so it was great to have them show us around. They had us follow them over into Haleiwa and go to the place where they have amazing shaved ice. They had this hawaiian flavor that was addicting.

On Sunday we went to church and afterwards we went to see the 'Iolani Palace in downtown Honolulu but they didn't do tours on Sundays and this was are last day in Hawaii so I only got a picture of the outside

I thought I should do another picture. Here I am at 22 weeks. I have been feeling her kick a lot more now and I actually know now that it's her and not me just thinking it was something else. Just the other night I was laying in bed reading and she was just kicking away so I called Logan to come quick and he put his hand on my belly and right then she kicked pretty hard. It was a tender moment to have Logan be able to feel her.
